Karen Copsey Memorial Bench Dedication Ceremony

Though Karen Copsey was not a college employee, her influence is felt throughout our campus. As an architect and partner at Nichols, Melburg & Rossetto—the firm that partnered with COS for many years—Karen played a key role in the design and construction of numerous facilities on both the Weed and Yreka campuses. Her dedication and vision are imprinted in nearly every corner of our college. Karen was also an active and generous community member, volunteering with many local organizations. She served on the COS Foundation Board of Directors and was an alumna of the College of the Siskiyous, where she earned her Associate’s degree before continuing on to UC Berkeley to study architecture. On January 14, 2023, Karen passed away after a brief and courageous battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. In honor of her legacy and deep connection to our campus, a memorial bench has been placed near the Science Building—the final project she helped bring to life at COS.
